Beginner Watercolor | 6-Week Series
Learn the basics of watercolor in six progressive lessons. We will explore and practice topics such as “wet-in-wet”, washes, pigments, masking fluid, flat brushes, transferring, drybrush techniques, and composition.
Class One
Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Learn to paint “wet-in-wet”, the famous method unique to transparent watercolor. Discuss materials; explain transparency; and practice mixing pigments on paper “a la prima.”
Class Two
Saturday, January 10th, 2026 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
With watercolors, it is important to be able to plan your painting so that you can lay in a smooth wash, working from light to dark, and allowing for either blurred or sharp edges where colors meet. Discuss pigments in this class and begin to learn which to choose.
Class Three
Saturday, January 17th, 2026 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Discover how to preserve negative space with masking fluid while painting a group of imaginative butterflies.
Class Four
Saturday, January 24th, 2026 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Learn to work from photographs, transferring images to watercolor paper, also using a flat brush for very thin lines.
Class Five
Saturday, January 31st, 2026 | 1:30 - 3:30 PM
Using various brushes, we will quickly depict doors, windows, and fenceposts. We will also practice the “dry brush” method for old wood and grass.
