How cool is this? The first Indiana state flag is coming our way for two months starting Sept. 23! We're one of only three communities outside Indy to be honored this way. The other is Corydon, the first state capital, and Morresville, the home of the designer.
Why are we so honored? Lafayette is the cradle of ArtSmart: Indiana, which was designated a Bicentennial Legacy Project. Celebrating its own 30th birthday, the program brings art and history to Hoosier classrooms and communities.
You'll find the flag in the museum's Weil Galleries as part of an ongoing exhibit called Bicentennial Legacy Exhibition: ArtSmart:Indiana. This exhibit spans the history of the state with original works from private and public collections, as well as the museum's permanent collection. It is believed to be one of only three exhibits statewide that capture all 200 years of the state's history.
Be sure to thank Sen. Ron Alting sponsored and the Indiana Arts Commission for their financial support.
