ArtPrize Trip to Grand Rapids
October 5-7, 2016
The Art Museum is partnering with the Discovering Art & Artists Interest Group of the Purdue Women's Club for a trip to ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2014, our two organizations hosted this trip with a one-night stay and the traveler’s comments were that we should stay two nights. So this year Art Museum Executive Director, Kendall Smith and Museum Curator, Michael Crowthers will lead a three-day, two-night tour.
ArtPrize® is an international art competition held in three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids. Over 1,500 international artists will compete for prizes of more than $500,000! Two $200,000 grand prize awards will be awarded. One is decided by a jury and the other by popular vote. You will have an opportunity to participate in voting during our stay.
We will board a luxury Miller Transportation motor coach at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater parking lot at 7:45 AM, Wednesday, October 5. You will be staying at the heart of the ArtPrize venues--in the exquisite Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Several of the entries will be within the hotel and most others are nearby. You have Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday to enjoy downtown Grand Rapids, the Gerald Ford Museum, the Grand Rapids Art Museum and tour all of the ArtPrize venues within walking distance. A Frank Lloyd Wright Meyer May Home Tour will be optional on Thursday afternoon.
Friday morning we will board our motor coach for the fantastic Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. A guided tram tour is included with your ticket price and several of the ArtPrize entries will be installed there. You won’t want to miss the beautiful and serene new Richard and Helen DeVos Japanese Garden.
