Art Museum remodeling starts September 8
The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will undergo remodeling, beginning on Sept. 8 thanks to a $62,000 grant from the North Central Health Services Inc. and administered by Tippecanoe Arts Federation.
The remodeling will expand the second floor administrative space, said Kendall Smith, the museum's executive director. After remodeling, the Museum Shop will be repositioned to focus on work by artists who are actively engaged with the Art Museum. Artists who will be represented will be members of the faculty, advanced students, have work in the Permanent Collection or in a current gallery exhibit.
The museum galleries and gift shop will be closed from September 9 to 24. Classrooms and meeting spaces will remain open during the remodeling. Three new exhibitions will open on Sept. 25, with a reception hosted by the Art League 5-7:30 p.m. They exhibits feature:
· Art celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Art League of Greater Lafayette. The exhibit will include art the league has purchased for the Art Museum permanent collection as well as art created by the league members.
· "Landscapes and Floating Islands," featuring large-scale paintings and collages inspired by his love of the mountain landscapes of Italy. The artist, Al Pounders, is professor emeritus of painting at Purdue University.
· "Being and Becoming in a Field of Resonance," focused on movement of the human figure. Each piece in this exhibition is an exploration of light, with abstract silhouettes of full figures in a world of fantasy. The artist is West Lafayette's Loren Olson.
