Monstrous Mosaic Bloom-out (A Community Event!)
Tuesdays, June 11- July, 6-8 pm
Number of Classes: Pick 6 Tues. sessions during the 8 weeks.
Students will learn to make an armature that will form a base for a giant mosaic flower. Mosaic techniques will be applied to the armature creating a giant finished bloom. Color and design will be emphasized in the execution of the mosaic process.
The history of mosaics and their role in human culture will also be discussed.
Although each student will be making their own bloom(s),
this class is a group effort to create an other-worldly display of a giant proportion. At the culmination of this class, an exhibit of the flowers will be installed on the AMGL grounds creating a show stopping much larger than life flower bed.
Additional sculptures of butterflies and bugs and other garden dwellers will be encouraged to join in using the techniques learned in this class.
Details on the exhibit in August, will follow at a later date.
Class fee: $195 (includes $35 materials fee) $175 for Art Museum Members
Included in the materials fee: Tools: Grinders, nippers, glass cutters, wheel nippers, pressure breakers,
hammer, sponges, adhesive spreaders, mixing containers, spatulas, protective eyewear.
Materials: a limited supply of items for tile making will be on hand plus some adhesive and grout to use in emergencies.

Mixed Media: Functional Printmaking with Jennifer Reitmeyer
Tuesdays, June 11 – July 30, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Age Level: Adults (16+)
Students will learn methods of mixed media and printmaking techniques to apply to their individual artwork. This course will introduce the students to a variety of approaches of mixed media and printmaking using acrylic paint, acrylic gel medium, ink, crayons, modeling paste, and collage materials. Each session will include a demonstration and individual instruction to assist each student's personal vision. Participants choose their own subject motif ranging from abstract to realistic and are encouraged to bring to class pictures or sketches for inspiration. By the end of this course the student will understand multiple printing and mixed media techniques to apply to Wall Art, Wearable Art, Clay Art, and/or Paper Crafts.

Pottery I • Introduction to Clay for Adults with Jeff and Jane Boswell

• to create both functional and non-functional stoneware pottery forms using the potter’s wheel, slab roller, extruder, molds, templates, and bare hands.
• to explore surface decoration on raw clay forms through carving, appliqué, sprigging, and stamping.
• to apply color to bisqued clay with oxides, stains and glazes.
• to glaze pottery by dipping, pouring and painting.
• to analyze and discuss pottery forms through group critique, using
pottery terms and an understanding of craftsmanship and the elements and principles of design.
• to interpret and evaluate individual work in relation to both historic and contemporary examples

ABOUT THE CLASS:
In Pottery II, adult students will be introduced to advanced wheel and handbuilding techniques, and also have the opportunity for independent work. Students will:
• be able to focus on either wheel or handbuilding if desired.
• set individual learning goals for wheel, handbuilding, or both.
• learn more advanced pottery techniques including: making lids, multiples and place settings;
mastering handles; using colored clays, combining wheel and handbuilt forms, etc.
• learn more advanced decorating techniques including: underglazes on both raw and
bisqued clay, wax and paper resist, sgraffito, mishima, monoprinting, trailing, embossing, marbling, atomizers and airbrushing.
• have the opportunity to work with various stoneware and porcelain clay bodies.
• apply her/his awareness of the elements & principles of design in clay from actual
construction to firing.
• study and research the techniques and work of contemporary potters through
current publications, books, and internet resources.

For all levels This class is for anyone who would like to venture into the wonderful world of watercolors. Each class meeting has a different emphasis, such as composition, color theory, use of value and different painting techniques: the topics are adjusted based on the needs of the class.
Participants are encouraged to paint subjects that they select and to discover their own unique painting style. Instruction on composition and technique help to assure successful outcomes. This class provides a safe and encouraging environment for artist at all stages of development.
Classes do not have to be consecutive; students are given a punch card for 6 sessions to be used within 6 months

What students will learn in this class: In class we will work through a number of exercises designed to train the eye, hand and imagination to work together. It is fun, easy, interesting and guaranteed to improve your drawing. It may change the way you see the world around you. Nothing to bring or buy - the instructor will bring materials for you to use in class. Students will notice striking improvements in their artwork. This class is great for people who have not drawn before, and for those who would like a refresher in the basics of drawing. It is fun, and everyone can learn.
