Art Museum Strategic Plan

ART MUSEUM OF GREATER LAFAYETTE FOUR-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN FOR FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH
(JULY 2011 THRU JUNE 2015) .


During 2013-14 year, the planning committee will assess progress toward meeting the goals of the strategic plan and suggest any different actions that might need to be taken.

Ensure Long-Term

STRATEGIES:

  1. Establish a reserve fund of one year’s operating expenses
    MEANS: 
    1. Set aside 2% of all profits from fundraising events  
    2. Use unsolicited and unrestricted financial gifts/bequests for this purpose
  2. Continue solid record of soliciting funds from outside sources
    MEANS: 
    1. Actively pursue grant opportunities  
    2. Actively solicit exhibition sponsorships from individuals and businesses  
    3. Actively pursue new partnerships with other institutions and agencies to financially support museum’s activities  
    4. Support the Art League in its fundraising endeavors  
    5. Continue to involve the Foundation in fundraising efforts    
  3. Grow the membership
    MEANS: 
    1. Train and nurture volunteers to assist Membership Coordinator with development efforts
    2. Hold an annual membership appreciation event, perhaps in connection with the annual meeting in October                                                                                                         
  4. Sponsor quality fundraising events
    MEANS:
    1. Host two major “signature” events per year
      (Art & Architecture [?] in fall;  Heart of Art in February)                                                 
    2. Schedule other events related to Museum’s mission (“Paint-Out,”  trips/tours, etc.)      
  5. Use wisely funds as they become available from Foundations and the capital campaign        

 

Community Outreach

GOAL:  REACH OUT TO SEGMENTS OF THE COMMUNITY THAT PRESENTLY ARE NOT SERVED OR DO NOT SEEM TO UTILIZE THE MUSEUM”S RESOURCES  

STRATEGIES:

  1. Plan exhibitions to appeal to and engage a larger and more diverse constituency       
    MEANS: 
    1. Determine what special niche this Museum can best fill in the                         community and region                         
    2. Schedule an exhibition with appeal for targeted regional audience every other year       
    3. Occasionally schedule traveling exhibits, featuring more prominent artists   
    4. Offer more exhibitions in collaboration with other local and campus arts organizations
    5.  Enhance program of lectures and artist appearances related to exhibitions      
  2. Improve accessibility of Museum’s exhibitions and programs
    MEANS: 
    1. Enlist area businesses to hold employee/family events at the Museum                       
    2. Open Museum on Sunday afternoons to attract more families                       
    3. Develop more user-friendly interactive materials to accompany exhibitions           
    4. Institute outreach efforts to surrounding counties in our area                                       
  3. Make the Museum’s educational programs more responsive to community needs/desires MEANS:
    1. Revise the curriculum of studio classes so it complements that of other venues            
    2. Involve other community-based education providers in collaborative instructional activities                   
    3. Devise new ways to supplement art instruction in the schools and involve teachers      
    4. Develop programs for at-risk children and underserved adults
